Dyne Medical Group, Disposable Flexible Ureteroscope 'URUS' Wins Red Dot Award

With a 6 o'clock working channel providing optimal visualization, the user-friendly design enhances convenience for medical professionals.

Dyne Medical Group (CEO Seong-Hoon Lee), a domestic medical device manufacturer, announced on the 19th that its self-developed disposable flexible ureteroscope, URUS (URUS System, referred to as 'URUS'  hereafter), has won the prestigious Red Dot Design Award 2024.

URUS Wins Red Dot Design Award in 'Design Concept' Category

The Red Dot Design Award is an international design competition organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany. Since its inception in 1955, the award has recognized products that excel in design quality and functionality. This award recognizes the design quality and user convenience of URUS, highlighting its well-thought-out product design.

URUS is a disposable flexible ureteroscope paired with a video processor, used primarily in surgeries to remove kidney and ureter stones (RIRS, retrograde intra-renal surgery). URUS is essential for visualizing the ureters and kidneys and features a flexible insertion section, making it one of the few flexible ureteroscopes used in medical procedures.

Thanks to its flexibility, URUS enables minimally invasive procedures, contributing to faster recovery for patients while reducing the risk of cross-contamination from reusable ureteroscopes. This allows medical professionals to perform safer and more effective procedures using URUS.

Dyne Medical Group’s ureteroscope design team commented, “URUS was designed with user convenience in mind. The most critical function is for medical professionals to directly view the kidneys and ureters during surgery and to treat the affected areas using lasers and surgical instruments inserted simultaneously.”

They also noted, “Unlike conventional ureteroscopes that feature 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock working channels, which cause blind spots when inserted, URUS has a 6 o'clock working channel, ensuring clear visualization from both sides. This was achieved after several usability tests and incorporating feedback from consulting doctors, making URUS a product designed to meet user needs.”

Dyne Medical Group is also conducting workshops using URUS at the World Conference on Endourology and Urologic Technology (WCET 2024).

URUS has been featured in the Red Dot Design Concept Yearbook and will be displayed online on the Red Dot website for a year. This award has allowed Dyne Medical Group to showcase the design and technological innovation of URUS, and the company plans to continue developing innovative medical devices.

Recently, Dyne Medical Group entered the U.S. market with its FDA-approved disposable flexible ureteroscope 'URUS', enhancing its competitive edge in kidney stone treatment.

Additionally, the company plans to exclusively distribute the ureteral access sheath (UAS) product Clearpetra, manufactured by global medical device company Well Lead, in South Korea in the first half of 2025.

Furthermore, by the second half of 2025, Dyne Medical Group will introduce the Trilogy kidney stone lithotripter, utilizing ultrasound and shockwaves, and the Thulium Fiber Laser (TFL) from the global Swiss medical company Electro Medical Systems, for sale in South Korea.

Through these efforts, Dyne Medical Group aims to provide a comprehensive portfolio of products for medical professionals in South Korea to effectively remove kidney and ureter stones.
