Stone treatment is one of the fastest-evolving fields in urology. The pace of innovation is such that entirely new devices emerge in short timeframes, requiring continuous understanding and adoption of the latest technologies. It's a constant challenge.

In line with this trend, a clinic committed to integrating innovative equipment based on a philosophy that excellent tools, deep understanding, and skilled use must work in harmony to shorten surgical time and reduce complications is drawing attention.

That clinic is The Seoul Urology Clinic, led by Dr. Min-Soo Choo, which recently adopted several major devices developed by Korea’s disposable endoscope manufacturer, Dyne Medical Group.

In an interview with Medical Times, Dr. Min-Soo Choo(photo)  emphasized, “More than 80% of successful stone surgery depends on good medical devices. The remaining 20% comes down to how well the physician understands and utilizes each device. Choosing the right function based on the situation and tailoring strategy to each patient’s condition is critical. That’s why I had confidence in Dyne Medical's products even during development, and I decided early on that I would use them upon release.”

When asked about the adoption process, he said, “We conducted multiple demos to verify product performance in actual surgical settings. The results were highly satisfactory, which led us to adopt the devices. Since our clinic is equipped for 24/7 emergency kidney stone surgeries, it is essential that we use equipment we can rely on under any circumstances.”

Regarding the products, ClearPetra, the aspiration-type ureteral access sheath, was praised for its efficiency in ensuring continuous suction and clear visibility during surgery.
“In traditional basket methods, removing stone fragments requires multiple insertions of the scope, which is cumbersome. But with ClearPetra, fragments are continuously removed through suction, reducing procedure time and maintaining excellent visibility,” Dr. Min-Soo Choo explained.

He also noted that URUS, the flexible ureteroscope, offers outstanding durability and stability. Its 6 o’clock working channel allows for precise maneuvering in stone fragmentation, and the Port-C connector with a one-handed lever enables ISIC (in-scope instrument control), allowing rapid and intuitive control of devices like lasers or baskets without the help of an assistant.

Dr. Min-Soo Choo stated, “By adopting equipment that enhances surgical efficiency, we’ve improved both the accuracy and safety of procedures. This leads to higher patient satisfaction and faster recovery, which ultimately raises the standard of local healthcare for patients suffering from painful kidney and ureteral stones.”

Designated as Dyne Medical Group’s First Training Center, Contributing to the Advancement of Stone Treatment in Korea

The Seoul Urology Clinic, which actively adopts the latest endoscopic and laser technologies to perform minimally invasive surgeries, aims to provide personalized care based on precise diagnosis of each patient's condition—especially in urologic diseases like urolithiasis and prostate issues.

The clinic has also been designated as Dyne Medical Group’s first official Training Center. Drawing from real surgical experiences, the clinic shares a wide range of clinical cases to help fellow and junior urologists gain practical insight.

Residents new to RIRS (retrograde intrarenal surgery) are gaining hands-on experience through training at the center. The goal is to expand safe and efficient treatment options for kidney stone patients nationwide, while fostering long-term education and clinical excellence in stone surgery.

In addition, Dr. Min-Soo Choo is currently gathering comparative clinical data on the efficacy and complication rates of Dyne Medical’s comprehensive stone treatment portfolio — including the URUS ureteroscope, ClearPetra, and Port-C — versus competing products. He is also planning to publish academic papers based on the findings.

“As a clinic that specializes in surgery, we aim to contribute to the academic field through meaningful research as well,” he emphasized.

Concluding the interview, Dr. Min-Soo Choo said,
“Urology continues to evolve alongside medical technology. Only when a physician’s philosophy and technological expertise come together can patients receive the best outcomes. We will continue to practice patient-centered care and grow alongside the domestic medical device industry.”
