Dyne Medical Group Launches Endoscopic Connector Device 'Port-C'

Eliminating the Inconvenience of Existing Treatment Devices and Enhancing Procedural Efficiency and Safety with Fine Instrument Adjustment

Dyne Medical Group (CEO Seong-Hoon Lee), a domestic medical device manufacturer, announced the launch of Port-C on the 30th. This device is used in retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS), a procedure for removing kidney and ureteral stones through endoscopy. It connects to the ureteroscope used during the procedure to assist in manipulating treatment instruments.

The image shows Dyne Medical Group's flexible ureteroscope "URUS" and "Port-C" connected, along with the Port-C device.

Previously, a device called the "Y-Connector" required opening and closing the insertion port for manipulation. However, Port-C allows for simple adjustment of the laser fiber or basket to the desired length with just a lever action, without the need to open or secure the insertion port. This is considered an innovative concept called in-scope instrument control (ISIC).

Port-C enables the treatment device at the end of the inserted endoscope to be adjusted up to 6mm with one hand through the lever action. This greatly helps medical professionals fine-tune the instrument by viewing the procedure on the operating room monitor. Notably, since the insertion port does not need to be opened or closed, the device can be adjusted by a single person without the need for additional surgical staff.

CEO Seong-Hoon Lee stated, “Through clinical observation, we identified the discomfort faced by medical professionals during endoscopic stone treatment procedures. In particular, during the delicate adjustments needed to fragment stones, the opening and closing motions of the existing ‘Y-Connector’ required additional staff, and mistakes in this process could result in fluid spillage, leading to secondary infections for both patients and medical personnel. We focused on addressing this issue, which led to the development of this product.”

He emphasized, “Existing endoscopic connectors only allowed for simple fixation. When adjustments to the position of the endoscopic treatment device were needed, the insertion port of the Y-Connector had to be unnecessarily opened and closed repeatedly. After much consideration on how to improve this, we developed this product.”

With the release of Port-C, users can now adjust the instrument easily with the lever during the procedure, eliminating the need for assistance from other medical staff. This not only shortens procedure times but also enhances efficiency. Furthermore, the risk of secondary infections due to fluid spillage caused by operational errors is eliminated, ultimately leading to more efficient procedures for patients.

Port-C is expected to be sold overseas in the second half of 2025. In August 2024, the prototype of Port-C, alongside the previously launched flexible ureteroscope URUS, was introduced at the World Congress of Endourology and Urologic Technology (WCET 2024), one of the most influential related academic conferences worldwide. The products received positive feedback from many doctors around the globe.

Port-C is compatible not only with Dyne Medical Group's URUS but also with other companies' endoscopes. Dyne Medical Group expects this product to become the standard device for endoscopic procedures in the field of urology.

Meanwhile, Dyne Medical Group, the only manufacturer of single-use endoscopes in Korea, plans to import and exclusively distribute the ureteral access sheath (UAS) product ClearPetra, manufactured by global medical device company Well Lead, in Korea in the first half of next year. In the second half of the year, they will also sell the kidney stone lithotripter Trilogie and thulium fiber laser products from global medical company Electro Medical Systems in Korea.
