Building on Endoscopic Technology and Surgical Workflow Expertise in Urinary Stone Treatment to Expand into BPH
R&D Begins on AI-Based Smart Resectoscope Platform, Expanding the Company’s Urology Business Portfolio
Dyne Medical Group, a medical device company specializing in urology led by CEO Sung Hoon Lee, announced on August 28 that it has been selected for the Scale-up TIPS R&D Program, led by Korea’s Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea Technology and Information Promotion Agency for SMEs.

Scale-up TIPS is a program that combines private investment with government-funded research and development to support the technological advancement and commercialization of promising companies with strong technological capabilities and growth potential.
The selected project is titled “Development of an AI-Based Smart Resectoscope Platform with Enhanced Position and Orientation Recognition for HoLEP Surgery.” The R&D project will run from July 2026 through June 2029. Dyne Medical Group will receive a total of KRW 2 billion in government R&D funding to develop a digital surgical platform for endoscopic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Aion Investment will serve as the program operator.
Dyne Medical Group has developed urology-focused endoscopic products for urinary stone treatment, centered on its single-use flexible ureteroscope, URUS. Through this process, the company has accumulated expertise not only in key product functions such as endoscopic imaging, irrigation, and suction, but also in urologic surgery by incorporating actual procedural workflows and physicians’ clinical environments into product development.
Through this R&D project, Dyne Medical Group plans to extend these capabilities into the treatment of BPH. The company will develop a smart surgical platform based on a digital resectoscope and image-processing technologies for endoscopic BPH surgery, while also researching AI-based surgical support technologies designed to assist physicians in recognizing position and orientation during procedures.
With this initiative, Dyne Medical Group aims to expand its clinical coverage within urology beyond its existing urinary stone treatment business and into the BPH field. Rather than focusing solely on the development of an individual product, the company sees the project as an opportunity to apply its accumulated expertise in urologic endoscopy and surgical workflows to adjacent treatment areas.

Dyne Medical Group plans to continue strengthening its specialization in urology while gradually expanding its treatment areas and product portfolio. The BPH R&D project is part of this broader growth strategy, and the company intends to focus on translating its domestic R&D achievements into commercialized products and enhanced competitiveness in global markets.
